Free support for parents of mentally disabled children

The Southwest Connecticut affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has extended support to families and caregivers of mentally disabled children and teens under 17 years of age by offering a free six-session course. The course aims to equip participants with an accurate and practical understanding of the different treatment and educational options available, facilities to impart training on key skills, peer support services and choosing the best possible approach to advocacy.

This groundbreaking initiative taken by the NAMI is centered on evidence-based strategies, and mental health experts believe that such awareness programs, which are backed by extensive research, can result in fruitful outcomes. NAMI takes pride in the fact that its team of highly experienced and trained volunteers will leave no stone unturned in bringing a change in the lives of millions of families, as they themselves have gone through the plight of seeing a loved one battle with mental ailments.
